The resort community of Miami Beach is spending over US$500 million to brace for the scientific projection that the sea level will rise 60 inches by the turn of the century. This session will present issues surrounding aging infrastructure, and solutions put in place during phase 1 and 2 of this monumental project, exhibiting the success of the project and potential issues surrounding trying to flood-proof a city.
This presentation will provide an overview of smart stormwater technology and methods capable of documenting the health and performance of stormwater infrastructure in real time. Case studies will be examined on two different BMP types: permeable pavement systems in the City of Cudahy; and underground storage systems in the City of Appleton, both located in the State of Wisconsin. Data collected from these case studies show how stormwater BMPs are capable of performing much better than computer models give them credit.
This course provides an opportunity to learn and experience what is necessary to install and complete a BMP installation inspection.
