Description

Most in the construction industry are familiar with the basic sediment control tools, such as silt fence and inlet protection. However, sometimes we are challenged with unique and extraordinary sediment trapping challenges. This course examines a project site at the bottom of a large watershed that receives floods of storm water from offsite, including Hydro-excavation, which generates sediment laden water that is off the charts of any turbidity meter; and Pipe jacking next to a popular stream produces a clay-slurry that cannot be released. Contaminated sediments, that are especially challenging because the sediment-filled water can spread the area of contamination, are reviewed. Case studies are presented to show how projects ramped up sediment control in these situations to meet permit requirements.
