The Washington State Department of Ecology (ECY) manages the Technology Assessment Protocol – Ecology (TAPE) program where they evaluate the treatment capabilities of manufactured treatment devices (MTDs) for total suspended solids (TSS), dissolved Copper and Zinc, and total Phosphorus. MTDs that meet the criteria for treatment receive a General Use Level Designation (GULD). With the release of the 2024 TAPE Guidance, ECY now mandates additional testing to confirm maintenance longevity along with treatment capabilities. This presentation describes the changes to the TAPE program that include specific actions required of manufacturers to inform users of the maintenance cycles for each individual MTD. TAPE will include information from this additional monitoring in the GULD written for the MTD so that potential users of the device will have the information needed to determine the life-cycle cost of the MTD and decide if they want to install the device in their MS4.
