SEQUESTRATION
Isolate contaminants; avoid their distribution and withdrawal by suction into water off-takes
- Natural Processes
- In storage, separation and sequestration of heavy metals, chemicals, soil particles, and organic matter naturally occurs through adsorption, flocculation, precipitation, and settling, then incorporation into biofilms and sediment
- Active Processes
- Avoid re-suspending sediments by using calming inlets to tanks
- Position outlet at least 4 inches (10 cm) above bottom of tank
- Position smart outlets and use floating collared offtakes to draw outlet water from the cleanest strata of the tank, several inches below the top of the water level
