Divert contaminants before entry to water storage

  • Use appropriate prefiltration devices (e.g. gutter screen, inline filters, vortex filters, etc.) to reduce organic matter, debris, and particulates from entering tanks and reduce sediment accumulations in bottom
  • Use first flush devices to remove initial runoff from storms containing dissolved and suspended contaminants and leachates that cannot be excluded by high yield filtration
  • Prevent backflow back into the tank
  • Ensure all tank openings are properly screened to prevent entry of vermin, insects, and other organisms
  • Ensure underground tanks are sealed from surface and subsurface water entry
