SUMMARY:Watershed Protection from a Stormwater Perspective: Regulations and Components – Part 3
DESCRIPTION:Date: September 21\, 2023 | 2:00 PM EST/1:00 PM CST\nSpeaker: Angela Walker\nCredits: 0.1 CEU / 1.0 PDH \nRegister Now \nThis 3-part webinar series will delve into the EPA regulations that govern watershed protection and the crucial role of stormwater permitting in this regard. The series will also offer an overview of the 9 elements required by the EPA for a watershed protection plan and how they are put into practice. Join speaker Angela Walker from Stormwater University on September 21st\, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. CST\, as she explores stakeholders and how the federal government supports the implementation of these plans through grants and funding. You will also learn how to identify problematic pollutants in a watershed and how to limit their impact. \nMoreover\, the series will discuss why watershed protections sometimes fail and how to avoid such pitfalls. Lastly\, it will explore the significance of water quality standards and how protecting the watershed can substantially improve the quality of water in a region\, state\, territory\, or tribal land. \nLearning Objectives \nUpon completion of this course\, attendees should be able to: \n\nIdentify what causes watershed protection plans to fail and how to avoid the pitfalls\nDiscuss new and pending regulations and how the regulatory climate has evolved in recent years\nDescribe how successful watershed programs help improve water quality standards and how protecting the watershed greatly increase the quality of water in a given area\nExplain how the Federal government helps implement watershed protection plans with grants and funding

SUMMARY:Tunnels – A sustainable solution for flood control
DESCRIPTION:Date: Wednesday\, August 9\, 2023\nTime: 2:00 PM ET / 1:00 PM CT / 11:00 AM PT / 7:00 PM GMT\nDuration: 1 Hour\nCredits: 0.1 CEU / 1.0 PDH\nSponsors: Contech and Invisible Structures \nRegister Now \nLarge diameter tunnels have been successfully deployed for flood mitigation and water conveyance in North America. More and more owners are taking a step back when it comes to large water infrastructure projects that disrupt quality of life by causing surface interruptions\, and evaluating tunnels as an alternative. The costs and risks associated with tunneling has decreased over time with the development of specialized and highly effective construction equipment suitable for most ground conditions. Because tunnels are deep underground\, the surface space required for construction is limited and hence the disruption to the public. Tunnels are designed for 100-150 year service life\, but are known to well outperform the design life with routine inspection and maintenance. We will present case studies where successful implementation of tunnel projects has led to long term flood mitigation success in a sustainable manner. The webinar will provide an overview of the flood control tunnels\, how they work and provide case studies of such tunnels in Charleston\, SC and Dallas\, TX. \nSpeakers \n\n\n\nStephen O’Connell\nEast Region Heavy Civil Lead\, Black and Veatch \nStephen is East Region Heavy Civil Lead for Black & Veatch and the Project Manager for the City of Charleston’s deep stormwater tunnel system. His focus is planning and management of heavy civil projects for municipal and federal clients in the southeast. \n\n\n\nAswathy (Ash) Sivaram\nCoastal infrastructure Lead\, Black and Veatch \nAsh Sivaram is a tunnels and coastal infrastructure practice lead with Black & Veatch in Houston\, TX where she focuses on heavy civil projects for clients in the Gulf Coast. \n\nSponsored by:
